Scan a barcode

How to scan a packaged food’s barcode for its exact numbers, pick how much you had, and scan the nutrition label when a product isn’t found.

Updated

For anything in a package, a barcode gives the exact numbers from the label, not an estimate. Coachh looks the product up in Open Food Facts and USDA’s database.

On iPhone

  1. In the chat, tap + › Scan a barcode. (Or tap Meal in today’s habits › Scan a barcode.)
  2. Point the camera at the barcode, or type the number under it and tap Look up.
  3. Choose how much you had, in servings, grams or ounces, and the meal. Tap Log it.

Not in the database yet? Tap Scan the nutrition label, then Take a photo of the Nutrition Facts panel (or Type the numbers instead), check the numbers and tap Next.

On Android

Coachh for Android launches in November 2026. These are the steps for the Android app once it’s out.

  1. In the chat, tap + › Scan a barcode, or Meal › Scan a barcode.
  2. Point at the barcode, or type the number and tap Look up.
  3. Set the amount and meal, then tap Log it.

Good to know

  • If a product’s numbers don’t add up, Coachh says they look off and offers Scan the label. Log it anyway logs them as they are.
  • A label is read on your phone; the photo isn’t uploaded. Scan one for a missing barcode and its numbers go on Coachh’s shared food list, so the next person’s scan finds it.
  • A scanned food goes to Apple Health or Health Connect straight away, and shows up as you type next time: see My foods.
  • No barcode? Scan a nutrition label is in the same + menu.
